Pokertableratings.com has exposed another security flaw by Cereus. They have demonstrated that cheating as well as stealing accounts is very easy. Cereus apparently is not using SSL or a similar encryption algorithm. Because of the UB scandal 2, members of the online community Twoplustwo.xom are having a field day.

There have been reactions, opinions, and posts regarding the issue. According to phils08 post, the problem is that Cerues Poker network does not use SSL to encrypt their communication which is extremely weak and the data can be easily decoded. In addition, the requirement for this vulnerability to be exploited is network access which means that an attacker could dump the network traffic and exploit the vulnerability when he is simply playing on an open wireless network, a cracked network, or a physical network that has been compromised.

Almost Winning is Addictive

Gambling for many is just good fun. However, for some, it becomes an addiction because of the need to win big in order to satisfy their craving. According to new research, it is not the thrill of winning, but the thrill of almost winning that creates the gambling problem. The reaction of the brain and its response to “near misses” is correlated with a greater tendency to gambling addiction.

In research of 20 volunteers done by Henry Chase and Luke Clark where the volunteers played a game of gambling, they found out that those who scored highest in gambling addiction severity also showed the most activity in the midbrain area in response to near misses. The two researchers suggest that the increase in the amount of dopamine in the midbrain, because of near misses happening during gambling is the reason why a person is getting addicted to gambling. Thus, it could be possible to find treatments for gambling addiction by reducing the transmission of dopamine in the brain.

WSOP Heading to New Las Vegas Venue

Rumours are already spreading that the World Series of Poker could be held in a new venue. According to the reports from Las Vegas, the Harrah’s casino and hotel group, who are owners of the World Series of Poker, are to sell the Rio. Although The property is making $85 million a year, Harrah’s are apparently considering selling the property because they are not happy with it’s location.

The likely new home of the WSOP would be at Ceasar’s Palace. This was actually been given consideration two years ago. However, the Harrah’s were keen to maximize occupancy rates during the series by keeping the event at Rio. At the moment, no official announcement has been made and it is unlikely that any plans will be made until after this year’s WSOP event.
